Heart Ball 2011

It was our pleasure to work on The American Heart Association’s 23rd annual Heart & Stroke Ball.  This year’s black-tie event surpassed all other years in fundraising.  This year’s chairman was James E. “Ted” Bassett, III.  Annual Honoree was Ralph Hacker. Plus, there was a very special tribute to Sam Barnes, who passed away last fall.

We work with and support the American Heart Association annually.  We believe in their mission to save lives through continued research and education about heart disease and stroke.  Did you know: heart disease is the number one killer of women? Please ladies, take a minute to read the warning signs and have a plan of action.

In the Sunday paper, the Lexington Herald Leader said “The ball was held in the lavishly decorated Bluegrass Ballroom in the Lexington Center.   Click here to read the full article.  Great Expectations provided all table scape design, linen and flowers.  MSI Productions provided all staging and lighting.  The Hyatt Regency provided catering and service.

Some photos of our work below….click on image in enlarge.

Shades of red, burgundy and hot pink mixed beautifully. A few feathers were tucked in to tie in with one of our featured designs, feather spheres.

Large pieces were set upon tall cylinders, adding more feathers and orchid sprays for even more height and texture. (Don't you love the Porsche in the background...auctioned off that night!)

Feathered design component, the red feathered sphere....there were tall ones and short ones throughout the room.

Tall pieces are a must in this venue.

One of two stages that were installed in the room, with perfect lighting all around the room. MSI Productions knows how to do it right!

Art in Bloom 2011

This was our first year working as event coordinator for Art in Bloom, a fundraiser that benefits the Art Museum at the University of Kentucky.  The event has had a strong following for the last 11 years and we are proud to be associated with it.  If you have never been to Art in Bloom, you are really missing out!  Fifty of our areas’ most gifted floral designers select an artwork in the museum and interpret that artwork through the use of flowers.  It is amazing and their designs are on display all weekend for the public to see, as well as private showings on Friday and Saturday nights.

Our work with this project started back during the summer of 2010 with planning, strategy and budgeting with the museum staff.  In the Fall, we began working along side their volunteer committees to move forward with plans and processes.  After the new year, we continued to finetune the details, design and the logistics for their 2-day special events.

We loved working with our wonderful vendors on this weekend: Dupree Catering, Bryants Rental, and Phoenix Entertainment.  All flowers, linens, planning and check in/out staff were provided by Great Expectations.

Below is a quick look at the black-tie Friday night Sponsorship dinner on the concert stage at the Singletary Center.

The Singletary Center technical staff were very knowledgeable and talented!

These swirly black/white tableclothes echoed the modern art in the museum that night.

Each table was highlighted with an unique color napkin and matching centerpiece.

With each table being lit with pin-spots, the colors "wow"d our guests as they entered.

It was hard to choose, but I think the orange was my favorite (Alicia's too...but don't tell the Tennessee fans!)

This picture of the purple table did not do it justice. It was so pretty!

Matching menu cards were provided by Dupree Catering!

We love it when new options come on to our local market! (Be sure to buy local when you can!)  Our friends over at Gold Shield Limousine have acquired a new vintage vehicle to rent.  Check it out.  And don’t forget, they also have the only white vintage Bentley in town!

Southern Living Wedding Magazine ~ Spring 2011

We are so excited to announce that one of our August weddings is featured in Southern Living Wedding Magazine!  This is their first published magazine in 6 years and it’s fabulous!  This is different from the perspective that it actually offers ideas and tons of unique ways to make your wedding personal.  Almost all of the other wedding magazines are full of dress pictures and weighed heavily towards advertisers. Once you have your dress you really don’t want to sort through a hundred pages of designer gowns and other national advertisers. You want ideas to spur your imagination. Virtually every bride that we deal with really wants a wedding that reflects their personality and style as a couple.  This magazine brings you that and more. It’s a must have and it’s on newstands now. I bought all the copies that  Barnes and Noble had (sorry!), but surely there’s more. Thank you to Julie and Tony for being so unique and fabulously photogenic and to Melanie Mauer for capturing all the beauty so wonderfully and for all your hard work to get this wedding submitted!  The cover and spread are below!

Julie + Tony 8.7.10 ~Bodley Bullock House

Julie and Tony had a dreamy garden wedding ceremony and reception on a perfect August evening in this Gratz Park neighborhood. The small and intimate affair was exactly as they envisioned it- fulled with personality that showed their love for each other and the ties that bind their very special family. Julie really wanted the “al fresco” experience, so we didn’t use a tent.  We set tables up on the lawn area and started the ceremony late enough that the garden would be shaded and as cool as it could be for an August wedding.  Crist Creona worked with Julie to create a “garden atmosphere” in working with the natural beauty of their surroundings, and accentuating what was already there.   We were so fortunate that the weather cooperated and it was actually pretty cool for an early August night.  Melanie Mauer Photography caputured her day so eloquently, as usual, and you can see by the pictures below- simply stunning!.  Crist Creana did her amazing florals- I just love his work! I must say a special shout out to Brenda Renner at the Sugar Forest. Her cake was simply delicious and she was able to mimic the details of Julie’s dress perfectly!  Darae and Friends provided the most amazing food that has become so well known in Central Kentucky- one of our favorites.  Julie’s fabulous makeup by Ana Crane-Simpson! Wedding planning, linens and stationery by Alicia at Great Expectations.  Julie and Tony–Merci, for allowing me to be a part of your day!

The pictures below are a snapshot of their day, but the vibe and fun atmosphere that this special couple created are hard to express. Enjoy!

Versailles Engagement – Christine + Adam

We are so excited for Christine and Adam’s outdoor “destination” wedding at their Blue Heaven farm in Versailles! They are both new to the area, having bought their farm in July. All of their guests will be from different parts of the country, so we are busy crafting a true Kentucky experience for them. Deanna and I get to work together on this one and Christine has enjoyed working with one company to do her coordination, flowers, lighting, linen, decor, invitations, stationery and overall design of her wedding. We have had a blast so far and can’t wait for June 4!  Below are their engagement pictures taken by Cydil Waggoner! I adore Cydil and love her work and so do Christine and Adam! Happy New Year!

Ashley + Anthony 10.17.10 ~Talon Winery

I am just smitten with this wedding!  Ashley was just great to work with and get to know and I am sad that I don’t get to talk with her as much now that the wedding is over. She poured so much energy into the look and vibe for their day and I am over the moon about how it all turned out! The ceremony and reception were at Talon Winery. The picturesque scenery speaks for itself, as seen above. In keeping with the look of the venue, Ashley went with a “rustic -elegance” feel. She wanted to incorporate alot of fall texture and colors, while accenting what was already there.  Thank you Ashley and Anthony for allowing me to be  a part of your magical day!
