Sarah and Rick had a beautiful, evening wedding at Christ the King Cathedral on Saturday night. My favorite personal touch: The bride’s dad made lanterns to greet guests as they entered the church. A warm personal touch on a cold winter night. Once inside, the ceremony, presided over by Fr. Jim Sichko, further warmed hearts and souls. As the bride and groom escaped via limo, guests followed them to Fasig Tipton for a reception with fabulous food by Central Catering and dancing for a real celebration! At the end of the reception (which went over by 30 minutes because the dancefloor was so hot!), we sent each guest home with an armload of flowers. Guests love that touch!

The brides bouquet included hydrangea, roses, disbuds, button mums, hypericum berries, lily grass.

Fasig Tipton hosted 220 of the couples' family and friends.

With such a high ceiling in this venue, we did tall, medium and short centerpieces to keep the guests' eyes moving around the room.

Tall centerpieces included curly willow, gladiolous and belles of ireland.

Short centerpieces included belles of ireland sections, button ums, roses and hypericum berries.

Medium arrangements were either all white gladiolous or all green belles of ireland.

Kelli and Scott had a fabulous wedding at the gorgeous Headley- Whitney Museum . The weather was a bit hot for mid September, but cooled down nicely for their evening reception. Kelli knew exactly what she wanted from a style and decor perspective. She wanted a very neutral palette, using pinks and whites, with navy as her accent color. She wanted a classic and elegant look and drew inspiration from the formal gardens and historic backdrop of the museum grounds. It’s always wise to work with your natural surroundings and remember why you booked your reception venue in the first place. Take your cue’s from what you have to work with and build on that foundation.

Tracy and Wes ~ 5.15.10 ~ Louisville

What an amazing and immensely personal wedding day Wes and Tracy had! They perfectly managed to weave their style and eclectic vibe into their day. They had an intimate and gorgeous ceremony at Duncan Memorial. We then headed off to the surreal and calming Yew Dell Gardens. These choices perfectly matched Tracy and Wes’ eco friendly lifestyle. Yew Dell is just gorgeous and rustic enough and Duncan Memorial had the old world charm and historical significance that made it extra special. Rosemary and Jonathon with Monarch Photography captured their day so eloquently- just loved them. I loved working with Kristen at the Yellow Canary- her work was beyond amazing and exactly what Tracy wanted. One of my favorite personal touches of the day was– an artist was hired to paint a scene from their reception. What an awesome keepsake- see the results below!

Holiday Music?

Yes, we have Christmas music playing in our office this morning. We turned the temperature down a few degrees, are sipping hot coffee, fireplace going, sifting through notes, pictures and order forms to plan the perfect holiday for our clients.

“We are country people” is what the bride told me at our first meeting. She followed up with “I just want things to be pretty”. I was smitten with her and her vision for her sweet, sweet wedding.

The ceremony and reception would be held at her sister’s home, a farm in rural Richmond. When we scouted the property for the perfect ceremony location, the pond down the hill called for our attention. It was the perfect backdrop.

A few yards away was a barn we (and her entire family) lovingly transformed into a reception space. Her inspiration for decor was her future mother-in-law’s antique blue Ball canning jars. That and her love for hydrangeas. I think it turned out so sweet. Just like Jessie and TJ.

The ceremony overlooked the pond. The center aisle was marked by hydrangea vases on shephard hooks, and grass lined with white and blue petals.The arbor was lovingly built by the bride's father. We decorated it with curly willow, tulle, hydrangea, mums, and carnations.

The reception barn featured hanging tobacco cloth and paper lanterns. White ceiling fans were also installed to keep air moving and provide visual interest.

Tables featured navy runners, blue Ball canning jars with blue hydrangea, blue votive candles and personalized napkins.

A BBQ dinner was finished off with fruit topped cupcakes from Martines. YUM! You could smell the sugar in the air!

Heart & Stroke Ball 2010

We are committed supporters of the American Heart Association. Their 22nd annual Heart and Stroke Ball was this past Saturday night at the Bluegrass Ballroom in the downtown Lexington Center. This is our 4th year designing the decor for this prestigious black-tie event for over 450 guests.

With a keen eye on the goal of using fundraising dollars for saving lives, we took a modern streamline approach to decor this year. First, we chose a royal blue pintuck tablecloth to match the blue chairs (what else can you do, if you can’t cover them, you have to make them work!). Then we brought in red (of course) flowers: orchids, tulips and….yes… over 1000 carnations. Don’t cringe at carnations! They can be beautiful and fun when used in amass.

We had custom labels made for our vases to echo the event’s logo. The great thing about these is they are static-based and can be used again.

We mixed up the heights of centerpieces using medium submerged tulips and tall submerged orchids. All pieces featured either floating candles or submerged lights in them. The below orchid pieces sat upon light bases to illuminate from the bottom of the piece.

The above design (with the flowers coming out of the top of the vases) was inspired by Jeff Leatham, who hosted Flowers Uncut last year on TLC. He is one of my favorite NYC designers! Everything he does is unique and artful!

Now, I know we are in Central Kentucky but I thought people would really get this design. During set up, I had a couple people ask me if I wanted them to drop the flowers down in the vase (as if I was not tall enough to do so and they were trying to help me….awww…don’t you love KY…we are so nice here!). Anyway, it was comical to hear offers to help and “are you going to put those down in the vases”? Eventually when we finished the set up of the room, they got it. They liked it. And I smiled. See NYC….you got nothing on us!

Brides like to talk about “their colors”. Often, we are asked what the “in colors” are each each year. Sometimes, that is because the bride was to be on the cutting edge of design. Yet sometimes, it is because a bride wants to steer clear of what is “in” and do something more traditional or original. Judge for yourself.
