Heart Ball 03.07.09 ~ Lexington Center Ballroom
This past Saturday, the 21st annual Heart Ball was held in Downtown Lexington. We always enjoy working with and supporting the American Heart Association. Who would not love working with such a fun group of people! They always give us such creative freedom and it shows in our work.
Below are a few pictures of the decor we designed for them. This year they were going for an elegant but understated look. It was their first year in the Heritage Ballroom at the Lexington Center. With such high ceilings, we knew we’d need to add some height. Curly willow is a wonderful budget-friendly option to provide that height.
( I wish I were a better photographer because these pictures don’t do our work justice.)
Their look featured a combination of 3 styles: tall arrangements, medium arrangements and short arrangements alternating throughout the room. With the tall ceilings of the ballroom, it was critical to provide height for impact and a variety to keep the eye moving throughout the room.
Tall arrangements featured curly willow with lots of surprises hanging throughout the limbs: mini-floral kissing balls, hanging amaranthus, roses in hanging vases, and individual lily blooms on the tips of limbs. This created a wonderful soft romantic look. We added blooms to the bottom of the vases too to keep the eye moving. Of course, we wanted to add our hanging lit-votives in the limbs too for more affect, but that is a no-no in this venue.
Medium arrangements also included a curly willow center with flowers surrounding the vase opening.
Short arrangements consisted of more coordinating flowers and added fruits featuring grapes, cactus pear, kiwi and nectarines. Each small arrangement was lifted off the table to ensure it got noticed. (Often, putting flat centerpieces on a fully loaded table, they can get lost. So I love this little trick of putting them atop another vase for a boast.) Bottoms of the lift vases were filled with curly willow and flower blooms to add a coordinating look with the taller willow pieces.
We had fun putting this night together for the Heart Association. Special thanks to Brooke Henson for helping us out! She tested her floral skills and we discovered her floral roots runs deep. Her grandmother was a florist.
